December features The Joe Semple Quartet!
Joe Semple is an Edmonton based clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer specializing in the jazz idiom. He grew up in Calgary Alberta and was introduced to music at a young age. He fell in love with jazz and the clarinet after hearing Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing" on the radio. He's been hooked ever since.
Graduating from Mount Royal University's Jazz Performance Diploma in 2013, he moved to Edmonton and is completing a bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Music majoring in Composition. He draws compositional inspiration from the likes of Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Igor Stravinsky, and Gustav Holst.
Joe performs regularly around Edmonton and Calgary with groups such as the Loyal Edmonton Regiment Band, The Edmonton Klarinette Consort, the Forerunner Quartet, and his own projects such as the Joe Semple Trio and the Joe Semple Swingtet. Joe has performed all around Canada and the United States for a number of Canadian and foreign dignitaries. He was thrilled to have performed at the 2015 TD Edmonton International Jazz Festival as part of the emerging artist showcase and he looks forward to continue performing around Edmonton and the rest of Alberta.
