Edmonton Jazz pianist Mboya Nicholson's agenda is a basic one: to make people happy they came in to listen. His love of jazz was fostered and cultivated by his parents, who embraced all styles of music. He studied jazz with renowned and celebrated pianist Charlie Austin in Edmonton. And having studied with jazz legend Ellis Marsalis while living 7 years in New Orleans, Nicholson infuses his playing with a feel of the Crescent City.
Mboya has played in Japan, Brazil and Austria. Mboya also composes and writes string arrangements. He has has written arrangements for pop vocalist Alesandra Felicia; and opera singers Ernesto Ramirez and Mark Doss. And in 2015 Mboya was commissioned to compose by conductor of the ArsMusica Session Orchestra, Colin Mendez Morris, for a celebration of the Humber River Valley in Toronto.
