If you're a Cool Cat looking for a jam, the Carrot Community Arts Coffeehouse will be hosting Edmonton jazz musicians every month.
Jazz Jam Nights begin with a 45 minute set from a featured house band, followed by a jam session where everyone is welcome to join in! All levels are welcome.
April features Mallory Chipman!
Mallory has spent years cultivating her own unique sound: one that marries the modern and the traditional. While she's considered "modern jazz," her music defies genre boundaries. Audiences will be taken on an journey through the band's improvisational and spontaneous imaginings and experience a truly interactive form of collective communication. Mallory is an important player in the community due to her teaching position in MacEwan's music program, and her band is made up fully of Edmontonians. She carries on the legacy of Tommy Banks (her late grandfather) through her own musicality and talent. Mallory will be joined by guitarist Brett Hansen.
Brett Hansen is an Edmonton based guitarist and composer. He is a graduate of MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Music program where he studied with guitarist Jim Head, amongst others. Brett has also studied with American guitarist such as Rez Abbasi, Pete McCann, and Matthew Stevens. Brett’s music successfully blends elements of both modern and traditional jazz as well as folk, rock, and free influences.
