We will be looking at the work of Phyllis Wheatley, the first published African American female poet, followed by writing and a discussion. Together we will focus on the poetry of Phyllis Wheatley, read supplementary materials to contextualize
her writing, and have a group discussion that will follow after writing. It will be a bridge to the Trip Fantastic, the world of creativity.

Alison Clarke is the award-winning author of The Sisterhood, a young adult fantasy novel about Oppie, a sorceress’ daughter, and her best friend, Aurie, who is a dragon, and the journey they go on to save the universe. Clarke is a writer and artist who also enjoys both painting and drawing. She also experiences life as a
spoken word artist and is an instructor in the area of creative writing and visual arts.
