Kaleido Family Arts Festival returns to the Ave on September 18–20, 2026!
Get ready for an incredible festival weekend by joining us for Volunteer Orientation on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Whether you're a first-time volunteer or a returning member of the Kaleido crew, Orientation is the best way to prepare for the festival. Meet your Crew Leads, connect with fellow volunteers, learn what to expect during your shifts, and pick up helpful tips, tricks, and important information to help you have a great festival experience. There will also be time to ask questions and get familiar with festival operations before the weekend begins.
You'll be able to pick up your bus passes, festival program guide, and Volunteer Handbook during the evening.
A complimentary meal will be available during the session.
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is highly encouraged—especially for new volunteers.

Kaleido Family Arts Festival is a joyous, exuberant, radically open arts festival that shares the love of the Alberta Avenue Arts District.
Celebrate the arts and discover music, theatre, dance, street performances, food, artisans, art galleries, markets, and more in alleys, rooftops, parks and on Alberta Avenue.

This September, The Carrot is proud to present the Kaledio Family Arts Festival 2026 - Art Gallery: Street Lights Flickering, featuring the works of Tim Rechner. All the artwork on display is available for purchase, with a portion of the sale supporting the festival.
Artist Statement:
I create abstract artwork instinctually. The aim is to create intense energy through abstract visual language. The artwork created aspires to be dynamic, vibrant and beautiful. The process is intuitive, direct and physical. I attempt to emulate the raw spontaneity and enthusiasm of a young child creating artwork. Artwork made by children is an important resource. My aesthetic draws upon 20th century artists such as de Kooning, Gorky, Matta, Pollock, Rothko, Joan Mitchell, Twombly, Rauschenberg, Riopelle, Borduas, Basquiat, Stan Brakhage and Cecily Brown. I use blind drawing techniques attempting to tap into the subconscious. There is a strong emphasis on an all over compositional flow enforced by a skeletal framework of assertively drawn lines. Emotive, bright, forceful colour combinations further intensify the surfaces. The second layer of tightly composed shapes sit atop of the automatiste first layer creating a collaboration between the conscious and subconscious minds.

Allan Suarez is a guitarist, songwriter and band leader musically active in Canada since 2004. Current bands: Angelitos - Latin Mercader - Desert Rock / Flamenco Nuevo He has performed at The Myer Horowitz Theatre, The University of Alberta International week, North Country Fair, Wild Mountain Music Festival in Hinton AB, Robson Valley Music Festival, Heart of the city music festival, the Sasquatch Gathering and St Albert Latin Festival. His music has also been featured in CBC, CKUA and CJSR Radio; as well as printed chronicles in the Edmonton Journal and VUE magazine.

Erin Dawn and the Daybreakers grace the stage to share their unique music with our local community here in Edmonton. Blending the roots of bluegrass with a modern, heartfelt edge, this contemporary bluegrass ensemble brings a distinctive voice to the genre through the original songs of Edmonton songwriter Erin Dawn. Erin is joined by Mark McHale on mandolin, Nieva Srayko on Banjo, and Victor Mala on guitar. With rich harmonies, expressive instrumentation, and arrangements that balance tradition with innovation, the band creates a sound that feels both grounded and refreshingly new. Their music moves between intimate, reflective moments and driving, high-energy grooves, always anchored by lyrics that resonate long after the last note fades. On stage, the group delivers performances that are as genuine as they are engaging, inviting audiences into Erin’s world—one shaped by vulnerability, resilience, and a quiet sense of defiance. Whether playing a small listening room or a festival stage, they offer something rare: bluegrass music that honors its roots while making space for stories that don’t always get told.

Every piece offers me a ‘Pause’ of one kind or another of ‘BEing In The Moment’ in the flow of life unfolding in the Kaleidoscope of influences constantly vying for my attention. Zachary Kay is a singer-songwriter out of Grande Prairie, Alberta. He’s best known as the frontman for the band The Northbloods, but has also had a successful side-career as a solo artist and is the current lead guitar player for the band McKindred. His personal brand of folk/folk-rock reflects his experience of growing up in Northern Alberta. Themes of isolation, struggle, and redemption permeate his body of work. His passion for the written word shines through in every line, and his many years of experience make him a joy to watch.

Alara Spencer is a composer, songwriter, and musician who has a vision of creating meaningful and enjoyable music while uplifting other Canadians’ musical expressions through experimentation, collaboration, performance, teaching, and continuous learning. Her music focuses on many aspects of life inspired by the four seasons and touches on a variety of genres. Alara graduated from Grant MacEwan University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Music (Major in Composition), using her degree as a source of inspiration for her to collaborate with artists from all over Canada and research Canadian identity.
