Friday Nite Live - Drifting Tunes

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents Drifting tunes – November 7

🎶 Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover | Youth (12 & under) $5 | All Ages 🎶

Clare McNaul met Blain Bovee at a Deadwood saloon on a South Dakota afternoon. They quickly discovered their shared love of singing songs and playing guitar, and joined forces almost immediately, eventually becoming a driving force behind Crazy Man Michael, a Guelph, Ontario-based Celtic-Folk inspired six-member band. Clare sang lead vocals, while Blain played lead acoustic guitar. Over the past three decades, Clare and Blain, now known as Drifting Tunes, have performed their music together, honing their signature sound—a blend of Folk, Roots, Americana, and Country—that is so inviting it envelops listeners like a warm hug. Clare’s captivating, earthy vocals weave together with Blain’s tender harmonies, setting the stage for compelling and memorable musical performances. Their sets feature cover songs by legendary singer-songwriters and musical influences like Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith, Gillian Welch, and Gram Parsons, interspersed with Drifting Tunes’ original, lyric-driven songs. Set to tuneful melodies, these songs are inspired by the music they love, experiences gathered in the vast landscapes they’ve traveled through, and the people they’ve met. Their songs transform ordinary, yet timeless, relatable moments—sometimes even tragic ones—into memorable, poignant, and at times humorous slice-of-life stories. Over the past 25 years, Drifting Tunes’ tunes have drifted from one end of North America to the other, from small towns in Ontario, Canada, to the Appalachian mountains, and even to smokey cowboy saloons tucked deep in the Mojave desert of the southwest. Even after their music stops, Drifting Tunes lingers in the air.

Dr. Ronald Pate is an author, educator, and facilitator-guide whose work in community development and urban planning integrates narrative processes with interdisciplinary research and spiritual insight. Holding a PhD in Urban Studies and Planning (Portland State University), and a master’s in American studies (University of Alabama), along with graduate theological studies, Pate is known for his pioneering research on a broadly transformative community building project in Georgia. His facilitation of stories-telling with groups continues to foster collaborative vision and sustainable outcomes.

Friday Nite Live - Rose Coloured Boys

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents Rose Coloured Boys – November 28

🎶 Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover | Youth (12 & under) $5 | All Ages 🎶

We are The Rose Coloured Boys the embodiment of blind optimism. We choose to see the beauty in life, no matter the challenges, always turning our eyes toward the light even when the shadows grow long. In a world of chaos and imperfection, we hold on to the belief that everything can still turn out beautifully, even if it feels distorted or flawed. Our music is a reflection of that hope a reminder that there’s always something worth cherishing, and always a reason to keep believing. We are a five piece band brought together not just by music, but by the strong bond of friendship we’ve built over time. Each of us brings our own unique style, influences, and stories, but when we come together, those differences blend into one sound that truly represents who we are.

Friday Nite Live - Nick Guiton

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents Nick Guiton – October 24

🎶 Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover | Youth (12 & under) $5 | All Ages 🎶

Nick Guiton is a talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, whose music blends a variety of genres, including Roots, Blues, Americana, and Alt-Country. Drawing from the timeless sounds of musical icons like John Hiatt, Bruce Springsteen, Townes Van Zandt, and Otis Taylor, Nick has carved out a distinctive sound that’s both reflective and raw. With lyrics that touch on the joys, struggles, and uncertainties of life, Nick’s music is relatable, offering connection to audiences from all walks of life. Nick’s journey in music began at a young age, experimenting with a Bontempi reed organ at just four years old. From there, he immersed himself in a wide range of musical influences, and his career evolved through numerous projects. Each of these endeavours showcased his versatility as an artist, from the alt-country sound of High Level Bridge to the gritty roots of No Dogs Barking and the high-energy performances of Friction Unlimited. However, it wasn’t until a near-fatal accident that Nick’s true resilience was tested. The accident threatened his ability to play and perform, but Nick’s love for music and his unwavering dedication to his craft saw him push through the recovery process. Emerging with a unique finger-picking guitar style, Nick adapted and refocused his efforts on a solo career. This transition not only deepened his artistry but also solidified his commitment to music as both a personal and creative lifeline.

In 2024, Nick released his first EP, The Sunburnt EP, which was recorded at the legendary Sun Studios. The release marked a major milestone in his career, showcasing his growth as a solo artist and his ability to produce a collection of songs that speak to both the soul and the heart.

In just a few years, the duo has seen growth happen in double-time; they have quickly grown their social media following collectively to a quarter of a million and have found themselves on the stages of major folk festivals in Western Canada, proving quickly that this duo is undeniably one to watch. Friday Nite Live - G.W. Myers

The Carrot Friday Nite Live presents G.W. Myers – October 3

🎶 Live music starts at 7:00 pm | $10 Cover | Youth (12 & under) $5 | All Ages 🎶

Gary Wayne Myers might play one of his indie-rock songs one minute, an alt-country tearjerker the next (G.W.’s tune, “World’s Largest Teardrop” was on the radio in 2025 when CKUA’s “This Just In” gave it a spin). He’ll sometimes play a guitar instrumental, having studied the Hawaiian slack key style with renowned slack key guitarists. He tries to keep his live-music sets “the right ratio of spaghetti to meatballs” by playing a classic-country cover after a G.W. original like, “do-re-mi-fa-SO-LA-POW-ER”.

October Gallery: Stop, Drop, and Paint + Community Paintings Made by Heart 2025

Gallery Exhibition Date: October 2 - November 1, 2025
Opening Reception: Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Collins Studio Art Gallery (11741 – 94 St)

You are warmly invited to the opening reception of Stop, Drop, and Paint and Community Paintings Made by Heart 2025.

This exhibition celebrates two lively projects created during this year’s Kaleido Family Arts Festival (Sept. 5–7), a beloved Alberta Avenue event featuring music, theatre, dance, street performers, food, artisans, and visual art.

Stop, Drop, and Paint was a two-day live art happening led by Jeff Collins with support from Will Truchon. Four Edmonton artists—Vince Gasparri, Jordan Rule, Tricia Firmaniuk, and Caitlin Richards—took turns working on 4 ft x 4 ft boards laid out on 94 Street. In 45-minute sessions, each artist added their vision before passing the work along to another. Over repeated rounds, their approaches fused into six large multimedia panels—each revealing a surprising unity born from collaboration.

Meanwhile, festival goers were invited to join in the fun through Community Paintings Made by Heart. Large panels, paint, brushes, squeegees, and other tools were laid out for all to experiment with. Participants added their marks, knowing others would continue the process. By weekend’s end, 11 vibrant paintings emerged, reflecting the shared joy and energy of the festival.

Now, these collaborative works come together in one exhibition, presented at Collins Studio Gallery and The Carrot Café from October 2 through November 1, 2025.

September 18 | Biboye Onanuga

Biboye embraces the abstract essence of instrumental music to evoke ephemeral expressions that drift through the modern world. A world he sees as one built for speed, but rarely in service of the pace at which we can best love and be loved. Known for his immersive live performances that envelop audiences, his music is inspired by avant-jazz greats who meld genres, innovate sonically, and delve into deep emotions, like Ambrose Akinmusire, Jamire Williams, and Mikel Patrick Avery. Working with music from and inspired by the '60s spiritual-jazz era, Biboye, a MacEwan University graduate, shapes vivid, expressive sounds at the forefront of the global jazz community.
